Biography

Cameron Debuck is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner —Board Certified (PMHNP-BC) at Red Sands Psychiatry. He specializes in serving patients with mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, psychotic disorders, adjustment disorders, and more. He proudly serves patients across the lifespan.

Cameron attended Dixie State University, earning his ASN (Associate of Science in Nursing) and BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degrees. While at DSU, he worked for several years as a CNA in memory care -where he got his first taste of working in the mental health space. While at Dixie, a lab professor remarked that he thought Cameron had the personality for psychiatry, a thought he would keep in the back of his mind.

He subsequently spent several years working as an RN in the fast-paced CVU/PCU and ICU settings. After COVID and nearly three years in this environment, Cameron felt burnt out and like he was no longer able to connect with patients. During the burnout, he reflected on his time at DSU and what motivated him to get into nursing: his love of connecting with and helping patients.

After some time, Cameron contacted the same professor who encouraged him to explore psychiatry as an undergraduate. This professor inspired Cameron to apply for a position at the inpatient behavioral health unit at the local hospital. He accepted a role as a PRN, fell in love with the job, and was able to connect with patients the way he always wanted to. After just one year there, he decided to pursue his PMHNP at Vanderbilt University to continue helping patients to the best of his ability.

Something that fascinates Cameron about mental health is that it is so different for everyone. People come from various backgrounds and have had different life experiences. He loves to meet people where they are and hear their stories for what they are. He doesn't believe in one-size-fits-all care. He sets goals and treatment plans based on the needs and unique preferences he discovers when getting to know each patient.

Cameron is approachable, relaxed, and kind. He believes in holistic, evidence-based care that utilizes a multidisciplinary team and a unique treatment plan for each patient, prioritizing their mental health and well-being. He is detail-oriented and wants to know the small things that make your life a little better and the little things that cause you grief. His care plans are adaptive, meaning a patient's treatment plan may change as goals change.

Outside the office, Cameron is a gearhead and spends his spare time working on cars and riding his motorcycle. He also hikes and golfs and loves spending time with friends and family. Cameron tries to live in the moment and is fully invested in the "now" time of life.

Cameron draws many of his personal perspectives on mental health from Stoicism. A favorite expression of his from this school of thought is the Latin phrase "Amor fati," which may be translated as "love of fate" or "love of one's fate." It describes an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good or, at the very least, necessary.

With Cameron on your care team, you can expect to find support and encouragement to help you work through life's tough challenges, as well as a helping hand as you develop healthy coping skills and perspective to make the stresses of life more manageable to work through.
