Zach Shepherd is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a provider at Red Sands Psychiatry.
Medication Management, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Adolescent Care, Young Adults, Adult Care.
Zach offers a balanced, holistic approach to mental health due to his experience as a Registered Nurse and in the adolescent treatment setting. Though his experience provides expertise across the broad spectrum of mental health, he specializes in medication management, anxiety care, mood disorders, and treatment for adolescents, young adults, and adults.
Zach earned his Associates's degree and Bachelors's of Nursing through Dixie State University and attended Vanderbilt University, where he earned a Master's of Science in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Lifespan Focused). A perennial student, he endeavors to grow his knowledge base by searching out new and alternative treatments and researching approved and evidence-based treatment plans. He believes in centering his care and research on the needs of each patient rather than employing a one-size-fits-all approach.
Zach is interested in how mental health impacts every person in one way or another throughout their life cycle. Though mental health manifests and impacts people in different ways, we are all constantly changing and adapting along with our mental health. He is captivated by the ability that all people have to make positive change and finds lasting satisfaction in helping others discover a new course in life.
Outside of the office, Zach enjoys spending time with his family, with animals (especially his horses and his dog), being anywhere outside or in the water, and, of course, watching Utah Jazz games.
With Zach, you can expect an easy-going, calm, understanding, and solution-focused mental health provider. He strives to help patients through active listening, mutual respect, motivational and therapeutic conversation, proper medication management, and providing accessible, frequent communication. He is a firm believer in collaborative care and is fully committed to working with other care providers and a patient’s individual support team.
